The perfect wedding venue does not exist, but Montage Palmetto Bluff comes pretty close, and easily makes my list of best wedding venues in South Carolina and the Lowcountry. This absolutely breathtaking venue is located in Bluffton, South Carolina, and is full of historic Southern charm and the best modern amenities. This is an escape from the rest of the world; a place to truly unplug and be fully present in every moment of your day. The stunning live oak trees and Spanish moss, perfect florals and meticulously kept grounds, cobblestone streets, and Southern architecture make you feel as though you aren’t bound by the confines of our modern era. It’s a place to lose yourself in your love story, what everyone deserves for their wedding day. The huge, sprawling property, with its river winding through the middle, is unlike anything else. I’m so grateful I got to spend time at this beautiful place, which is just about 2 hours away from Charleston, SC.
There are so many options for a perfectly bespoke wedding experience at Montage Palmetto Bluff. No matter the size of your guest list, or your vision for your wedding day, you can select something completely personal and unique to your vision. There are two chapels on the property, the May River Chapel, and the Somerset Chapel.
The May River Chapel can accommodate 120 guests, perfect for small to medium sized weddings. The chapel is situated on the banks of the May River and is a photographer’s dream–the natural light is unmatched, and the vaulted ceiling makes it feel quite spacious.
The Somerset Chapel is slightly larger, and is set on the interior waterway of the property. This chapel also features incredible natural lighting thanks to its beautiful windows, and can seat up to 185 guests.
There are two ballrooms on the property, the Oak and the Wilson. Both are spacious and elegant, with high ceilings, sparkling chandeliers, and floor-to-ceiling windows that provide plenty of natural light. The Oak Ballroom looks over the May River, and can house 115 guests, while the Wilson Ballroom looks out over the grand lawn, and can hold 350.
For an outdoor venue, look no further than the Village Green. This sprawling lawn is located in the heart of the resort and offers panoramic views of the river and surrounding landscape. The Village Green can accommodate up to 500 guests, making it perfect for large weddings. It features the beautiful ruins of the Wilson Mansion, and is perfect for a tented reception. The other outdoor venue options on the property are the Boathouse Lawn, the May River Lawn, the Wilson Lawn & Racquet Club, the Moreland Landing, the Moreland Crossroads Lawn, the May River Golf Lawn, and the Sunset Lawn. The different outdoor options are perfectly situated for anywhere from 100-500 guests. The unique and completely bespoke nature of the variety of venue options absolutely make this one of the best wedding venues in South Carolina and the Lowcountry.
For a unique and beautiful intimate wedding or microwedding, the Grace antique yacht is amazing and can accommodate both weddings and receptions of up to 24 people. The Vine venue overlooks the property’s beautiful lagoons, and has a capacity of 16 guests. It’s secluded, intimate, and private. Luxury weddings might consider the Cottage Lawn or Inn Lawn. The Cottage Lawn is expansive and open, surrounded by the property’s charming cottages and Spanish moss-draped oaks. It can accommodate 300 guests and requires a buyout of 50 cottages. The Inn Lawn is perfect for a Sperry tent, as the open lawn is expansive and perfectly framed by the Inn. It requires a full resort buyout of 200 rooms.
