A Morning Engagement Session in Charleston

I had the pleasure of getting to know Mackenzie and Jack during their downtown Charleston engagement session this summer. We met in the French Quarter just after sunrise to make use of the absolutely dreamy morning light that filters through the historic buildings that Charleston has to offer. One of my favorite things about photography in Charleston is that each and every photo location feels timeless and breathtaking–like being in Europe, where the history, colors, and textures truly add a special feel to each and every photo. I love the French Quarter because it’s a residential area with some historic churches–away from the hustle and bustle of the restaurants and shops around King Street, and a bit more private from the tourist traffic.

Engagement Session Tips for Capturing Emotion

I so enjoyed getting to hear about Mackenzie and Jack’s love story–he proposed in the Cypress Gardens here in the Charleston area. What could be more romantic! Mackenzie is a local business owner as well–she owns by ALALA downtown, which definitely makes sense with her stunning dress choices! The best advice I have for any couple looking to capture their love and personality in engagement photos is to come ready to have fun–when we three are talking and getting to know one another, it feels like a friend is hanging out with you while you focus on the best things about your love instead of having a stranger shove a camera in your face! It’s almost as if you have to let me in on the secret–and it’s my job to make you feel comfortable enough to allow me to see the “you” that no one else sees. The “you” that makes you special, and the “you” that is important to bottle up as a visual time capsule for 20 years down the road. Couples like this make me so grateful for my job.
