Everything You Need to Know The Cedar Room Wedding Venue

Charleston is the epitome of charm, character, and history, and Charleston weddings are no different! Once you’ve decided to host a Charleston wedding, the next step is to find the perfect venue. If you’re looking for something that is both historic and modern, consider a beautiful The Cedar Room wedding venue

About The Cedar Room Wedding Venue

The Cedar Room is located at the historic Cigar Factory and shares a building with Mercantile and Mash. They conveniently happen to be their exclusive caterers. The building itself dates back to 1881. The space originally thrived as a bustling textile factory and then as a part of the cigar factory for over six decades. The building has been a continuous part of Charleston’s history and was even added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 1980. Much more recently, the space was purchased by the highly successful Indigo Road Hospitality Group and lovingly transformed into an event space.

Today, The Cedar Room is a gorgeous, chic warehouse space with amenities to host some of the city’s most romantic and beautiful events, from their outside courtyard to its 8,000-square-foot indoor event space. It’s the perfect place to host a gorgeous, glamorous wedding in the heart of Charleston.

Details of the Grounds

Details of The Cedar Room’s history are everywhere you look around the property. From the intricate brickwork to the most delicate architectural touches, you’ll always feel the presence of the building’s past – in the best way possible.

Begin your wedding day by getting ready in their cozy Bridal Suite. Full disclosure: while it’s a beautiful space, it is pretty tiny. So it may not be the best to accommodate large bridal parties. Instead, you may want to consider reserving a nearby Airbnb or a spacious hotel room. It is, however, a perfect resting spot throughout the day where you and your partner can escape for a moment of solitude. Or to store your personal belongings until the end of the night. That said, the room creates a beautiful, serene space with a vanity and makeup mirror, warm lighting, and a full-length mirror. It’s a great spot for a few elegant bridal portraits before the day’s main event begins.

The Cedar Room Wedding Ceremony Locations

For your ceremony, you can choose to exchange your vows in the courtyard behind the building. Beautiful red brick walls, pristine landscaping, and strings of market lighting make the space inviting and romantic. Bring in your own arch or arbor to stand before as you say, “I do.” Ideally decorated in your wedding’s unique florals and decor. Up to 200 seated guests can join you for your courtyard ceremony.

Alternatively, you can always choose to host your ceremony indoors! Either split the event space for your ceremony and reception or flip it while your guests enjoy cocktail hour in the courtyard.

The Cedar Room itself is a bright and airy space that feels elegant and historic. In one large open space, nearly every wall is covered in broad, arched windows that overlook the courtyard and the beautiful Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge. Staggered throughout the room are weathered columns that add a unique rustic touch to the space, and beautiful light fixtures add visual interest while still complimenting the historic aesthetic.

A built-in bar is perfect for accommodating guests in need of refreshments (or a little liquid courage to hit the dance floor.) There are also two moveable bars available to rent with a gorgeous wooden chevron design, opening up more bar space for larger weddings. The Cedar Room can accommodate up to 300 seated guests, but you can certainly host a much smaller guest list without losing the grandeur of the unique and beautiful space.

Customize The Venue For Your Special Day

The Cedar Room itself feels uniquely beautiful with its bright natural light, elegant exposed brick, and unique industrial vibes. It is, however, a beautiful blank canvas for you to add your own signature style. Its neutral tones are ideal for accommodating any color palate or decor, so you can let your imagination run wild.

Photography Opportunities

While The Cedar Room itself is a smaller venue (not in square feet, but in acreage), it may seem at first as if there aren’t many photo opportunities onsite. In fact, it is the perfect space for gorgeous photos that feel modern and chic while still being effortlessly romantic. We can start in the Bridal Suite with some individual or couple portraits before moving out into the courtyard before guests arrive. Using the brick walls and landscaping as a backdrop, you’ll have stunning pictures that feel sleek, sophisticated, and timeless. We can also use the windows and decor in The Cedar Room itself before the wedding begins, incorporating some of your unique wedding aesthetic into your pictures. If that doesn’t feel like enough, no worries – we’re in downtown Charleston! Beautiful parks, historic buildings, and the Cooper River are just a few short blocks away.
